Folktales Told Around the World
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (November, 1978)
Author: Richard Mercer Dorson
Average review score:

Oral tradition put down on paper
Dorson ranges throughout the globe and passes on stories translated into ordinary spoken English. The stories read the way they'd be told in a family or group of friends. This is an invaluable resource: each selection includes notes about the individual sources and the themes covered in the story. It's also just plain fun to read.

Gator Cleans House
This is a wonderful children's book! My children love it so much that it is very worn from frequent reading and I will have to purchase another copy. This book teaches the importance of getting chores done before playing.

The Global IBM: Leadership in Multinational Management
Published in Hardcover by Dodd Mead (May, 1988)
Author: David Mercer
Average review score:

Oudated by events - but the lessons are still relevant
This book was written when IBM was at its peak success. It has, therefore, been outdated by subsequent events. Even so, it offers an insight into the culture which made it so successful, and is still relevant for other organisations - even if IBM itself lost its way!

Gothic Rock Book book review
This now out-of-print release is one of the definitive books on the history of Gothic and Death Rock, not just in the U.K. and U.S but the whole world! Written by Mick Mercer, an author whose credits include two other publications on this exact same subject. In this book he has collected and documented the "Doom 'n Gloom" scene in alphabetical order, leaving no stone unturned! From small but popular history-makers like HIP Magazine to big name headlining bands like the Sisters Of Mercy and then back again to recording the views of plain jane gothsters he probably interviewed as they were walking down the street. A must for any self-respecting deathrocker!

Herbert the Timid Dragon
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (November, 1980)
Author: Mercer Mayer
Average review score:

The Best Childrens Book Ever
This book has been in my family since I was young and everyone who read it admitted that it was their favorite. It has some of the best art ever done in a childrens book and the story has a good moral. Its a fun story with lots of silly characters. Herberts quest to be like a knight inspite of his timidness really teaches children about courage. Everyone should read this book no matter what age.

How the Trollusk Got His Hat
Published in Hardcover by Goldencraft (December, 1979)
Author: Mercer Mayer
Average review score:

as much fun for the reader as for the child it is read to
A relatively pointless plot, involving the Trollusk's quest to recover his lost "squeezle-skin" hat, is perfect for holding the attention of the pre-reader and serves as pretext for the delightful illustrative wit of Mercer Mayer. Once upon a time I read this story to my oldest child so often that I could just turn the pages and he would provide the text from memory, a great prelude to reading. Even so, the story takes a back seat to Mayer's wonderful illustrations. The adult reader begins to notice all the visual references to "Island Joe" and wonders -- who is Island Joe? What is his story? Can I get an Island Joe franchise? It's all great fun.

Today, my oldest is 24 and I have squirreled away two copies of this book -- one for him to read to his children some day, and one for grandpa to read to them when they come to visit.

Critter Shares with His Sister!
A great example of "sharing" amongst siblings--Little Critter tells of all the things that he shares with his little sister. The illustrations are a hilarious example of how it REALLY happens. My two year old son LOVES the book, and his little sister may well end up benfitting from Little Critter's advice! Great for a "read-together" session!
